How to Use the Battery Pack Updater

With the WHOOP Battery Pack Updater, you can update your Battery Pack 4.0’s firmware, run diagnostics, and personalize settings like charging mode and LED behavior.

How to get the Battery Pack Updater

Here's what you'll need to get started:

  • The USB-C cord you received with your WHOOP 4.0
  • Your Battery Pack 4.0*
  • A computer**

*The Battery Pack Updater is designed specifically for managing the Battery Pack 4.0 - it will not work with a Battery Pack 3.0.

**A Mac running macOS 10.15 or later or a PC running Windows 10 or later is required.

Check your system requirements

Apple macOS

  1. Open the Apple menu in the top left corner.
  2. Select About this Mac.
  3. The version number will be listed under the operating system name. You must be running 10.15 (macOS Catalina) or later.

Windows

  1. Select the Start button.
  2. Search for Computer
  3. Right-click and select Properties.
  4. The version number will be listed under the Windows Edition field. You must be running Windows 10 or later.

Download and install the Battery Pack Updater

Step-by-step

  1. Download the WHOOP Battery Pack Updater:
     
  2. After the installation completes, go to the location where the app was installed and open the Battery Pack Updater.

    On macOS, the default location is the Applications folders. On Windows, it is the Downloads folder.

  3. The file will be downloaded to the location you have configured.
     
    • On Windows computers, the app will install automatically.
       
    • To install the app on macOS computers, open the Install WHOOP Battery Pack Updater and follow the instructions on-screen. Mac users must enable permissions when prompted:

    • If you selected don’t allow when prompted or if the Battery Pack Updater fails to launch, follow the steps under Enabling permissions in macOS.

Update firmware

  1. Connect your Battery Pack 4.0 to your computer using the USB-C cable. Your battery pack will charge while plugged into your computer.

    We recommend connecting it directly instead of through a USB hub. 

  2. Once your battery pack is plugged in, its current charge level and firmware version will be displayed in the Battery Pack Updater.

  3. Select update firmware to update the firmware version of your battery pack. While the installation takes place, you can see what's new in the firmware release notes.

    While a firmware update is installing, please do not disconnect your battery pack.

    After a firmware update successfully installs, you can select confirm to exit the screen.
     
  4. Once the update is complete, you can close the application and unplug your battery pack.

Battery settings

  1. Connect your Battery Pack 4.0 to your computer using the USB-C cable. Your battery pack will charge while plugged into your computer. Note: We recommend connecting it directly instead of through a USB hub.
     
  2. Once your battery pack is plugged in, its current charge level and firmware version will be displayed in the Battery Pack Updater.
     
  3. Select battery settings.

  4. Customize your battery’s behavior and select update to save your settings.
     
    • Charge control: Choose between slide to charge so that your battery pack charges your WHOOP once slid into place, or tap to charge, which allows you to slide your battery pack into place and double tap to begin charging.
    • LED brightness: Control how bright your battery pack light is when charging your WHOOP.

If an error occurred while updating firmware or battery settings

If a firmware update fails, close and reopen the Battery Pack Updater, and then unplug and replug your Battery Pack 4.0 into your computer using the USB-C cord. Try updating your firmware again.

If an error occurs a second time or you need help, contact WHOOP Membership Services.

Enabling permissions on macOS

If you selected don’t allow when prompted by the Battery Pack Updater or if the Updater fails to launch, follow the steps below to enable permissions in System Preferences:

  1. Open the Apple menu in the top left corner.
     
  2. Select System Preferences, then select Security & Privacy.

  3. In the Privacy tab, navigate to the Files and Folders category in the left pane and find the WHOOP Battery Pack Updater listed on the right.

  4. Select the checkbox next to Documents Folder underneath the WHOOP Battery Pack Updater. You may need to click the lock    and enter your password to make changes.
