Is my WHOOP Strap water resistant? Can I swim and dive with it on?

The WHOOP Strap is water-resistant and formally tested to the international standard of IP68.  IP, or Ingress Protection, is a measure of a device's ability to resist dust and liquid.  The WHOOP Strap has an IP rating of 68 which means it is protected against particulate ingress like dust and dirt as well as being tested to be resistant to submersion in water of depths with a pressure of up to 3ATM (100ft).

The WHOOP Strap can be worn for most activities involving water such as:

  • Swimming in a pool with chlorinated water
  • Swimming in the ocean or other salt water
  • Hand washing
  • Showering
  • Baths

The WHOOP Strap cannot be used for diving or scuba diving.

Additionally, it is important to note that some substances like detergents, acids, insect repellent, acetone, nail polish remover, and sunscreen can degrade the WHOOP Strap over time and may affect the signal quality.  If you do expose the WHOOP Strap to such substances make sure to wash the WHOOP Strap off with fresh water.

IMPORTANT: The battery pack, however, is not waterproof and you should never expose it to water.  Make sure the WHOOP Strap is fully dried before putting a battery pack on.
