Frequent Android Disconnects

If you are experiencing issues keeping your WHOOP connected to your Android device, check out the steps below for your particular model.

NOTE: For all devices, begin by making sure Airplane mode is toggled OFF and your Bluetooth is toggled ON

LG

There are four settings a user can change to improve issues around data lag:

  • Battery Saver - set to disabled
  • Adaptive Battery - set to disabled
  • Background Restrictions - set to disabled (the WHOOP app shouldn't have background restrictions)
  • Power Saving Exclusions - set to enabled (the WHOOP app should be excluded from power-saving operations)

OnePlus

There are five distinct settings a user can change to improve issues around data lag:

  1. Battery Saver - Try disabling this if it is enabled
  2. Advanced / Deep optimization - Try disabling this if it is enabled
  3. Advanced / Sleep standby optimization - Try disabling this if it is enabled
  4. Battery Optimization - In the WHOOP app settings, select 'Don't optimize'
  5. Background Restriction - Try removing this restriction if it is enabled

Samsung

There are three settings a user can change to improve issues around data lag:

  1. In the WHOOP application settings:
    • Allow background data usage - set to enabled
    • Allow app while Data saver on - set to enabled
  2. In the Optimize battery usage system settings, disable the WHOOP app.
  3. For Android 9 or 10, navigate to Device Settings. Select Device Care, select Battery, then select App power management. Select Apps that won’t be put to sleep and search for the WHOOP app. Ensure it is toggled on:

Google Pixel & Motorola

There are three settings a user can change to improve issues around data lag:

  1. In system settings under Battery optimization, select the WHOOP app, then select Don't optimize.
  2. In the WHOOP app settings, enable Background data and Unrestricted data usage.
  3. In the system settings under Battery Saver, disable Turn on automatically and select Turn off now.

Huawei

There are 6 settings a user can change to improve issues around data lag for the Huawei: 

  1. In the system settings under Battery, disable Power saving mode and Ultra power saving mode.
  2. In the system settings under Battery, select, More Battery Settings and allow the device to stay connected when the device sleeps.
  3. In the system settings under Apps, locate the WHOOP app and select Power usage details. Select App launch and ensure all options are toggled on.
  4. In the system settings under Apps, locate the WHOOP and select Data usage. Enable Mobile dataWi-fi, and Background data.
  5. In the system settings under Data saver, toggle the WHOOP app on to allow unrestricted data access when data saver mode is on.
  6. In the system settings under Wireless & Networks, select Data usage and disable Smart data saver.
